Monopalade

A lemonade-stand tycoon with a credit score. Thirty days to build an empire without wrecking your credit.

BetaWeb gameBrowser

Monopalade is a lemonade-stand tycoon where the twist is your credit score. You start with $25, a score of 650, and no lemons, and you have thirty days to finish with a level-5 stand and $2,500 for a Lemonade Empire. Lesser endings exist for lesser fortunes, and bankruptcy waits for anyone whose cash goes negative while their score is in the gutter.

How to play

Each night, buy lemons in three qualities (customers are always served the best you have, and leftovers spoil a little), set a price per cup, upgrade the stand, and pick advertising: flyers for a day, street signs for three, a newspaper ad for five. Then open the stand and watch the day play out: passers-by have a budget and a quality standard, buy when the price fits, and leave happier or grumpier than they came, which moves your fame and tomorrow’s crowd. Weather scales everything, and the forecast is right most of the time.

The credit score

The bank offers loans by score band: nothing under 580, small and expensive in the 600s, larger and cheaper above 700. Payments come out every night. Paying on time nudges the score up, clearing a loan more so, missing a payment knocks it down with a fee, and going negative forces an emergency loan at a punishing rate. Borrow early to grow fast, or play it safe and end the month merely getting by.

Origins

It began at a hackathon in 2019 as a financial-literacy game built in Unity by a team of three. The web version keeps the design and the customers, who were hand-drawn by a friend at the event, and rebuilds everything else: a deterministic simulation with tests, a drawn street that changes with the weather and the time of day, and a layout made for a phone first.
